Arcus Bows

Arcus bows are light, agile, and lightning-fast. Recommended for professionals seeking agility, power, and brilliance.

Arcus S Series Cello Bows

Manufacturer's Description

Our S-bows draw a brilliant and most powerful sound, which is perfect for solo playing. They are the bows that most professional players choose. They are a perfect match with all dark sounding, large model instruments, like Goffriller or Montagnana perfectly. The octagonal sticks bounce really easy and play with unmatched agility and liveliness. The round sticks feel more steady and their handling is very direct and perfectly predictable.

Travel with Your Arcus Bow

Arcus bows contain no ivory, tortoiseshell, lizard skin, or other controlled species. You may travel with your Arcus bow with no worries or hassles.

Support IPCI with Your Purchase

Help preserve the Atlantic Rainforest of Brazil, where Pernambuco wood (Caesalpinia Echinata) is grown. A portion of the proceeds from every bow we sell is donated to the International Pernambuco Conservation Initiative. To learn more about IPCI and how you can help, please visit www.ipci-usa.org.

Please note: Although we stock some models, with over 100 variations, we are unable to physically stock them all. We, therefore, obtain many Arcus bows from the US Arcus distributor, as needed. As such, we do not have up-to-the-minute stock information available, here. In the event that your selected bow is not immediately available, we'll let you know within one business day, and allow you to cancel, backorder, or select a different model.   Please note that payment is authorized at time of order, which can result in a hold to your payment account. Authorization holds cannot be canceled and may take up to 10 days to expire. If you'd like to confirm stock prior to placing your order, please call or email and we'll be happy to help. Thank you for your understanding!

A word about Arcus bow winding: Arcus has two types of winding - a plain silver/gold winding and a winding with alternating black and silver/gold (a.k.a. imitation whalebone). Please note that the winding is not predictable, but is chosen by Arcus for each particular bow to achieve an ideal balance. Regardless of what is pictured in this stock photo, your bow may come with a different style of winding. If you have a preference, please feel free to contact us about it prior to placing your order.

Outstandingly dynamic, agile, and rich sounding bow.

The Arcus S8 Silver cello bow is really outstanding in many ways. Right out of the box it was obvious that it was something special.

Playing is effortless. Really. It is astonishing how the S8 bow handles string and position changes so easily. It is so light and nimble that it is almost like playing with an imaginary bow. I cannot say enough about the responsiveness and liveliness of the S8 bow. It just gets there and tracks and stabilizes in an instant.

The sound is nicely focus with good fundamentals and just the right amount of overtones. It has a very clean rich, projective sound. The notes nicely dance out of the cello. The sound is smooth and mellow but on the brighter side of the spectrum. It is not shrill or harsh in any way. On the contrary, it is amazing how smooth and mellow it is.

Volume and dynamic range exceed any other bow that I have played. The softest passages can be made to fade into nothingness and the loudest of passages will get you heard in a most projective and pleasing way. This bow is perfect for soloists but also can be played more gently in ensembles.

I wanted the best in playing characteristics and tone but did not want to stand out so much with the S8 gold version. I chose the S8 silver version to fly under the radar a bit while still getting the advantages of the S8 playing and tonal performance. My wallet thanked me just a little bit because this was a big expenditure for me. In the end I am very happy with the choice.
