Arcus P Series Violin Bows

Manufacturer's Description

With around 53 grams, the P-bows are our heaviest violin bows. They are of course still much lighter than wooden bows of 19th centuries design and thus notably more comfortable and easy to play with. Still, they provide a very solid and safe feel and perfect control. Their sound is more on the dark side, which is why they are a perfect fit to bright sounding instruments. The resiliency (or elasticity) of the stick is perfectly matched with the best modern strings, which allows to make the best use of them under all circumstances. They are available both with round and octagonal sticks. The octagonal bows feel more lively and agile, while the round ones are more steady and follow the hand very closely. The P-bows work well with every repertoire but they are excel in playing the big violin concertos of the Romantic era.

Support IPCI with Your Purchase

Help preserve the Atlantic Rainforest of Brazil, where Pernambuco wood (Caesalpinia Echinata) is grown. A portion of the proceeds from every bow we sell is donated to the International Pernambuco Conservation Initiative. To learn more about IPCI and how you can help, please visit www.ipci-usa.org.

Please note: Although we stock some models, with over 100 variations, we are unable to physically stock them all. We, therefore, obtain many Arcus bows from the US Arcus distributor, as needed. As such, we do not have up-to-the-minute stock information available, here. In the event that your selected bow is not immediately available, we'll let you know within one business day, and allow you to cancel, backorder, or select a different model.   Please note that payment is authorized at time of order, which can result in a hold to your payment account. Authorization holds cannot be canceled and may take up to 10 days to expire. If you'd like to confirm stock prior to placing your order, please call or email and we'll be happy to help. Thank you for your understanding!

A word about Arcus bow winding: Arcus has two types of winding - a plain silver/gold winding and a winding with alternating black and silver/gold (a.k.a. imitation whalebone). Please note that the winding is not predictable, but is chosen by Arcus for each particular bow to achieve an ideal balance. Regardless of what is pictured in this stock photo, your bow may come with a different style of winding. If you have a preference, please feel free to contact us about it prior to placing your order.

Phenomenal find and customer care

Our son was on a quest to find a bow for his vintage violin. He was intrigued by the technology behind Arcus bows and wanted to compare with wooden bows in the same price range. We trialed Prager, Nurnberger, Pfretzschner, and found that while it took some time to get used to the lighter weight, he loved the handling and consistency of tone he could achieve with the P7. From Mozart to Bach, he can create the tone/color he seeks with little effort. He recently played Shostakovich #8 at a school concert. His violin rang out with clarity and purity that was stunning and this electrifying experience sealed his love of the P7.

Also, Jim was incredibly helpful talking with us about what kind of sound we were looking for and provided great options to try to meet our goals. Very responsive to all our questions and we felt no pressure to purchase. Nor did he try to steer us away from Arcus bows as so many luthiers have done. Will absolutely come here first for all our string needs.
