Arcus M Series Cello Bows

Manufacturer's Description

If you are looking for a bow that enhances the warmth in the sound of your instrument, an Arcus M is most probably the right bow. It works really well with all smaller celli that are often a bit brighter in sound. The M-bows draw a very full, warm and rich sound which is also clear and provides good brilliance. They are good for the entire repertoire and provide great comfort, so that even after long hours of playing the bow arm still feels light and relaxed.

Travel with Your Arcus Bow

Arcus bows contain no ivory, tortoiseshell, lizard skin, or other controlled species. You may travel with your Arcus bow with no worries or hassles.

Support IPCI with Your Purchase

Help preserve the Atlantic Rainforest of Brazil, where Pernambuco wood (Caesalpinia Echinata) is grown. A portion of the proceeds from every bow we sell is donated to the International Pernambuco Conservation Initiative. To learn more about IPCI and how you can help, please visit www.ipci-usa.org.

Please note: Although we stock some models, with over 100 variations, we are unable to physically stock them all. We, therefore, obtain many Arcus bows from the US Arcus distributor, as needed. As such, we do not have up-to-the-minute stock information available, here. In the event that your selected bow is not immediately available, we'll let you know within one business day, and allow you to cancel, backorder, or select a different model.   Please note that payment is authorized at time of order, which can result in a hold to your payment account. Authorization holds cannot be canceled and may take up to 10 days to expire. If you'd like to confirm stock prior to placing your order, please call or email and we'll be happy to help. Thank you for your understanding!

A word about Arcus bow winding: Arcus has two types of winding - a plain silver/gold winding and a winding with alternating black and silver/gold (a.k.a. imitation whalebone). Please note that the winding is not predictable, but is chosen by Arcus for each particular bow to achieve an ideal balance. Regardless of what is pictured in this stock photo, your bow may come with a different style of winding. If you have a preference, please feel free to contact us about it prior to placing your order.

Arcus M5 Cello bow review

I got three Arcus cello bows on trial, M5, M6 and M7. Arcus cello bows are slightly longer than a wood bow. At 72 grams, the M Series cello bows feel much lighter than a Penambuco wood bow, which I like for chamber music, but it has lots of power in reserve for orchestra playing too. The M5 draws a strong and mellow sound, which is just right on my bright sounding cello. It is subtle in pianissimos, astonishingly easy in fortissimos but it does take some time to get used to the different feel. If you can't afford but want the agility and strenght of an old French master bowm, get an Arcus M5 bow, it's well worth the price.

Arches M5 Carbon Fiber Cello Bow

The ARCUS M5 bow generates a full, warm sound and works well with my cello which is a copy of a smaller body Guadagni Cello having a naturally brighter sound. This carbon fiber bow seems to be well balanced and is very comfortable for the right hand. The lighter weight presents no problems.
