The M-bows are a perfect fit for all small violas. They draw a warm, full sound which is open and clear, not the least nasal but rich and sonorous with great projection. The elasticity of their sticks is designed to match the shorter, softer strings of smaller instruments. Their weight is similar to traditional violin bows, which provides great playability and comfort, while bearing sufficient mass for bowings that require some impulse.

Best of the Bunch

Let me say first that James @ JS Fisher is a pleasure to deal with. We demo'd a number of expensive bows using the trial program and it was super easy from start to finish.

All the bows demo'd were Arcus Viola bows.. M7, M8, P7, P6, 20th Annv Silver, 20th Annv Gold. In the end since my daughters current viola is only 15.5 with a shortish string length it came down to the M7 and M8. For her the M8 won her over with a very slight edge to the M7 in richness of tone and added color. We found the P and Anniversary bows a little stiffer then she preferred on her small viola, but it was truly splitting hairs (pun intended) when it comes to these bows and sound quality.

The M8 is truly a special bow.
