Description

Bow Trial Program

The best way to evaluate a bow is to play it for yourself. That's why we offer this bow trial program! Just complete the information, above, and click Add To Cart. Then select Checkout (no PayPal please), to provide us with your address and payment information. Feel free to select Free Shipping during checkout, and we'll send the bows by USPS Priority Mail. When we receive your trial request, we'll contact you by phone to discuss your particular goals and what bows/makers/models are most likely to work well for you.

Cost

The cost of the initial trial is $20.00. If you choose to keep one of the bows, we'll credit $20.00 toward the price of the bow. If you don't find a bow you like, just send the bows back to us using the pre-paid return label that we provide. Please provide a credit card for payment. For security reasons, we cannot accept Paypal for bow trial orders.

Shipping

We cover the cost of shipping both ways. We'll send the bows to your credit card billing address via USPS Priority Mail. We require a signature upon delivery; but, if you don't happen to be at home when the package arrives, it's not a problem. You'll be able to pick it up at your local post office, at your convenience. You'll find a pre-paid USPS return shipping label with the bows. When you're ready to return the trial, just apply the label and take to your local post office.

May I have bows shipped to a different address?

Sorry, for security reasons, we require that the bows ship to your credit card billing address.

When will I get my bows?

Shipping time will depend on the availability of the bows selected. Many trials ship with bows from our inventory within a day or two. However, if we feel that a particular bow will work well for you, but don't happen to have it in stock, we may obtain if for you from the maker or distributor especially for your trial. There is no additional charge for this service, but it can add a week or so to the shipping time. (Note: This service is not offered for all brands and manufacturers, and is at our discretion.) We'll be happy to discuss shipping times in more detail during the phone consultation. Once shipped, trials typically arrive in 2-3 days.

One-Week Trial

Once you've had the bows in your possession for a full week, we ask that you return them so that we can service other customer requests. Shipping time is not counted as part of the seven days. If a few extra days would be helpful, just send us an email. We are usually able to approve a short extension.

Payment for Bows Purchased

Please refer to the order form included with the trial for pricing. If you choose to purchase a bow, please indicate this on the order form and return with any bows that you choose not to keep. When we receive the returned trial, we'll charge the purchase price to the credit card that you used to purchase the trial. If you prefer to pay via a different card or other method, just give us a call. We'll be happy to arrange payment by whatever method works best for you.

Can I arrange a second trial with different bows?

Certainly! Additional trials can be arranged. But, please note that the initial trial fee covers only a fraction of our actual costs for shipping and insurance. For additional trials, we charge a higher trial fee ($35.00). Regardless of the number of trials, one total credit of $20.00 will go toward the purchase price, if a bow is selected. Please stay in touch with us by email to let us know how the trial is going, and to request additional trials.

5 of 5 Convenient and excellent experince April 12, 2021

I appreciated the help Jim Fisher provided prior to the trial in choosing bows and during the trial making suggestions such as loosening the hair or how to go about trying the bows. Overall, buying bows this way has its pros and cons but in this case I was very happy with the experience.

5 of 5 Arcus Bow Trial March 29, 2021
Reviewer: Nancy from Portola Valley, CA United States
Jim Fisher's bow trial program is excellent, as is his responsive customer service. The bows arrived by USPS ahead of schedule. I compared them for a week and then mailed them back using the original box and prepaid mailing label. The process is extremely easy and well worth the $20 charge, which is refundable with the purchase of a bow.

Jim phoned me the day he received my email inquiring about Arcus bows and his trial program, and after a thorough consultation, he narrowed down the choice of bows he thought best for my violin and playing style. After the week's trial, I opted for a second trial to compare one of the bows (Arcus M7) with the Arcus bow one grade higher (M8). The M8 has the lightness and precision of a carbon-fiber bow and at the same time the flexibility of a fine, well-balanced wood bow. It allows me both to perform quick bowing movements and to pull rich, lower harmonics from the violin. I'm keeping it.

5 of 5 Grateful for patience and good advice! February 11, 2021
Reviewer: Sarah Rose from Travelers Rest, SC United States
As a former violinist who hadn't played much in 50 years  (Yikes!), I found Jim Fisher to be knowledgable  and patient with all my questions regarding upgrading my old violin and bow.  The bow trial was literally a Godsend during this pandemic.  With help from Jim I was able to find a great new carbon fiber Codabow Diamond GX.  I am loving the improved sound with this bow and am loving the daily improvement in my practice sessions.  Thank you so much Jim for helping me come back to a past love.  I sooo much appreciate your consistent excellent advice and your phone call.  Best customer service ever.

5 of 5 I love my Arcus S9 octagonal bow! December 20, 2020
Reviewer: Robert Kierzkowski from Reinholds, PA United States
I compared the Arcus carbon bows to my beloved pernambuco bow. I have both Strad and Monty models of cello, both with Versum Solo Thomastik strings. My first trial was S7, M7 and T7 Arcus bows. All three sounded nice, but no better than my pernambuco bow. The S7 was best of these. Second trial was S8 round, S8 Octagonal, S9 round bows. All three of these bows did sound better than my wood bow, with the S9 round sounded the best, but the S8 Octagonal felt best in hand and easiest to play. I purchased the S9 Octagonal bow, as it brought out the best sounds from both my cellos, and I absolutely loved how easy it was to play the Octagonal bow, from a soft and light sound, to loud forte, and especially fast passages. It is as though I just think of playing, and it almost plays itself effortlessly, allowing me to be so agile. It just lets me play the best ever. The Bow trial by mail worked great for me with these Arcus Bows. I love my S9 Octagonal Arcus bow! Thank you JS Fisher.

Reviewer: Robert Frankot from Tucson, AZ United States
Jim helped me to clarify what I really wanted in a bow and narrow down the selections. It takes me time to get accustomed to a new bow and so I really needed a home trial to fully appreciate the differences among the bows I was interested in. I feel it enabled me to make a better choice than I would have otherwise. Shipping was easy and hassle-free. For me, this is the only way to buy a bow.
