Arcus Quality Designation (3-9)

Arcus bows are rated for quality and designated with a number from 3 to 9. The higher the number, the better the quality of the stick. Levels 5 and 6 are our best selling bows and really show what the Arcus bows have to offer. Levels 7 and 8 have a cleaner attack, with exceptional clarity and a richer, more organic tone. Level 9 bows are rare, and are not always available for trial. Arcus reserves the level 9 designation for bows that they consider to be perfect. Levels 3 and 4 bows make Arcus a possibility for those on a budget, and are an exceptional value for the price. But, they do not offer the superb balance or response of the upper level bows.

Arcus Classic Bows

Cadenza, Concerto, Sinfonia, Allegro, Veloce, Vega

The classic series bows were manufactured in the original Arcus facility in Austria, and are still available, new, for purchase or trial. Arcus classic bows produce a full, round, balanced tone.

Arcus S Series Bows

Available for Violin and Cello, S Series bows are lightweight and stiff. They are quick, agile, brilliant and powerful - ideal for soloists. S Series bows are available in quality levels 5 to 9.

Arcus C Series Bows

Available for Violin only, Arcus C Series bows are slightly heavier (though still exceptionally lightweight) and more flexible than the S series bows. They offer a darker tone. We recommend them for orchestral and studio work, and for those who seek warmth, rather than brilliance and projection. C Series bows are available in quality levels 3 to 5. Note: C Series bows are identical in weight, stiffness, and playing characteristics to M Series bows.

Arcus M Series Bows

Available for Viola and Cello, M Series bows are slightly heavier (though still exceptionally lightweight) and more flexible than the S Series bows. They offer a darker tone. We recommend them for orchestral and studio work, and for those who seek warmth, rather than brilliance and projection. The M Series is available for in quality levels 3 to 7.

Arcus P Series Bows

Available for Violin and Viola, Arcus P Series bows combine the weight of the C/M lines with the strength of the S - i.e. they are relatively heavy, but stiff, with a balanced (neither bright nor dark) tone. P series bows are available in quality levels 4 to 8.

Arcus A Series Bows

The Arcus A series was discontinued for all instruments in December of 2014, and is no longer in production. For those seeking power and brilliance, we recommend trying the S Series. For those who prefer warmth to power and projection, we recommend trying the bows of the C or M Series. For those seeking a strong, but balanced tone, we recommend the P Series. However, if you desire an A series violin bow, please call us at 800-372-4151 or email info@fisherviolins.com to inquire. Existing stock may still be available, by special order.
